My first court date with the village that impounded my Buell saw the judge determining that the impoundment was legal, so no money back. However, the tickets I received got dismissed today!
I’m
happy the legal part of my lesson is over and I didn’t have to learn the hard way twice over

Stupidly rode without having proof of insurance or license on me. Produced both to the judge and the tickets were dropped.
Honestly, it’s a hit and miss with courts in this state. Some judges will dismiss if you have proof on the court date, others will say that since you couldn’t prove it at the time of the stop, the ticket stands... that’s how I didn’t get the impound fee back.

You can be impounded for that?! Wow. Even if you don’t have a physical copy, everything is in a computer database...
Yeah, sounds like the Judge did you a solid. Everyone is at the mercy of the Judge they can be as left or right as they want.

At the time, I just had my MSF certificate and hadn’t gotten to the DMV for the endorsement. So the judge told me today, had I not forgotten the card that night , most likely I would have gotten a warning or a stern talking to.

Okay that makes more sense. We have the same thing in CA. If you don’t have a M1 endorsement and found riding a motorcycle, its a ticket and the bike can be towed.
